NEWS: Environmental Impact Statement for Sydenham to Bankstown Released

September 14, 2017

Transport for NSW is delivering a world-class metro system for Sydney. Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project, delivering 31 stations and 66 kilometres of new metro rail - revolutionising the way Australia’s biggest city travels.

Sydney Metro City & Southwest is Stage 2 of Sydney Metro - 30 kilometres of new metro rail between Chatswood and Bankstown, including new twin tunnels under Sydney Harbour, and the upgrade and conversion of all 11 stations between Sydenham and Bankstown to metro standards.

Sydenham to Bankstown upgrade

We’re upgrading a 120 year old railway line into a modern metro with new fast trains for the 21st century and beyond. The T3 Bankstown line is being converted to metro standards between Sydenham and Bankstown.

The upgrade will include:

  • All 11 stations between Sydenham and Bankstown being upgraded to metro standards
  • A train every four minutes in the peak, with plenty of room to increase services in the future
  • Direct metro services to places like Martin Place, Barangaroo, Victoria Cross, Macquarie University, and the booming Norwest Business Park
  • Safe and reliable metro trains that are fully- air conditioned with multi-purpose spaces for parents with prams and wheelchairs
  • All metro stations will have lifts and level access between trains and platforms
  • New safety features like platform doors, which keep people and objects like prams away from the tracks.
